How to Get Stains Out of Carpet the Right Way

Spills happen—coffee, wine, pet accidents, or muddy shoes. But when it hits the carpet, panic often follows. The key to saving your floors is acting fast and knowing the right way to treat stains.

At Mack Maids, we’ve seen (and cleaned) every kind of carpet stain imaginable. Here’s what actually works:

First, blot—don’t scrub. Rubbing spreads the stain and pushes it deeper into the fibers. Use a clean, dry cloth to gently blot up as much of the spill as possible.

Next, use the right solution. For most fresh stains, a mix of warm water and a drop of dish soap works wonders. For tougher messes like red wine or pet stains, use a specialized carpet cleaner or an enzyme-based solution.

Always test your cleaner on a hidden area first to avoid discoloration. And don’t over-saturate—too much moisture can damage the padding underneath and cause odors later.

Once you’ve treated the stain, blot again to remove moisture, then lay down a clean towel and weigh it down to help absorb any leftover liquid. Finish by vacuuming the area once dry to lift the carpet fibers back up.

Of course, some stains just won’t budge without professional tools—and that’s where we come in. At Mack Maids, we use industry-grade equipment and techniques to safely lift stains and refresh your carpets without damage.
